Free workshop for people managing chronic disease starts July 10 in Vassar
 

VASSAR, MICH. — (July 3, 2018) — People living with chronic diseases and their loved ones can learn to manage their long-term health in a no-cost six-week workshop starting Tuesday, July 10 from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m. at the Bullard Sanford Memorial Library, 520 W. Huron Ave, Vassar, MI 48768. The National Kidney Foundation of Michigan (NKFM) is hosting the evidence-based Personal Action Toward Health (PATH) program weekly from July 10 through August 14. The fun, interactive workshop features certified leaders to help participants engage in a healthier, more enjoyable life.

This program was designed by the developers of the Chronic Disease Self-Management Program at Stanford University (referred to as the PATH program in Michigan). The workshop is for anyone with long term health problems, such as high blood pressure, chronic pain, depression, anxiety, cancer, kidney disease, arthritis, or other diseases. Caregivers are encouraged to participate as well. Participants learn to:

-manage everyday activities with an action plan
-ease symptoms and decrease stress
-communicate effectively with loved ones and health care providers
-avoid disease complications
-increase energy and improve overall health
